Welcome to my wonderfully fragrant world!

I’m an English-born designer (and candle addict) who has called Sydney home for the past decade.

I don’t know what it is about a well-crafted candle that makes me so happy. Perhaps it’s the pure decadence of purchasing something scrumptious only to watch it burn away; or maybe it’s the calorie-free treat factor – knowing I can gorge my senses without adding inches? Whatever the reason, I love surrounding myself with beauty and happiness, and scented candles and fresh flowers are always top of my feel-good shopping list.

I didn't start a candle business just because I adore candles, although I think that alone is a fair enough reason. I was totally content buying all the lovely fragrant candles available, and burning them every day until a friend told me about the potential dangers of burning paraffin wax candles in my home. I Googled 'dangers of paraffin wax' and was so freaked out by all the articles that I threw out a few hundred dollars worth of luxury candles that same evening.

And that's how it all started! I began searching for a natural candle that was as pleasing to me as the delicious ones I had disposed of the previous night and to my surprise I couldn't find anything with the same 'wow' factor.

I like a really strong candle that permeates the room even when it's unlit and I'm a fan of rich, exuberant floral fragrances like tuberose and orange blossom. I wanted something that I'd be proud to display in my home as well as to give as a gift so it needed to be beautifully (but not unnecessarily) packaged.

There were plenty of soy/natural candle offerings in the shops but nothing that ticked any of the boxes on my wish list. So after deciding I couldn't possibly be the only person in Australia unable to find exactly what I was looking for I started researching soy candle making techniques, filled about 4 diaries with ideas, plans and sketches over the course of many months, all culminating in the creation of Floriosa - my own range of Australian made, generously scented, natural soy wax candles using the talents of local artisans and the best available ingredients.

I am immensely proud of the result and have thoroughly enjoyed the journey of creating this unique Australian product - from designing the fragrances (with the help of a professional 'nose') to designing my logo and packaging, styling the photos and taking all the photography, burning my very own candles at home, and now receiving wonderful feedback from people who have bought my candles.
